Holly Shelter Middle School mission will provide a safe and engaging learning environment which will ensure success in the 21st century. This will be achieved with the cooperation of students, teachers, parents, and the community.
Holly Shelter Middle School's vision is to hold the highest expectations for all students to achieve the skills necessary to become a productive member of a global society. This will be achieved through the highest level of academic standards held to every student while utilizing state of the art technologies and facilities.
Every family can expect meaningful two-way communication between the home and school. At Holly Shelter Middle, we:

Contact our school family through weekly school wide phone calls and email, grade level newsletters, access to teacher curriculum lesson plans via Planbook, and through the PowerSchool Student and Parent Portal access for updated grades.
We provide opportunities for our parents and families to access support and resources that will assist them in developing parenting strategies that support their child(ren)’s successful educational experience.

Holly Shelter Middle School students and families are invited to our Open House and Meet your Team Night, Title 1 Curriculum Night, STEM and are invited to attend our school wide Attendance Clinic hosted by Students Support Services.
Families play an integral role in assisting student learning and we are committed to equipping our parents and guardians with the information, resources, and involvement necessary to support student learning at home. Families can expect to:

Have access to teacher curriculum based lessons on Planbook, multi-tiered systems of support, Holly Shelter Arts Department performances, athletic events and Hispanic Heritage Night
We welcome our parents and guardians at school and we seek your support and assistance in a variety of ways:

Offer school based tours for any family looking to enroll at HSMS. We welcome volunteers and provide guidance and training for the roles in which they will working.
We value the input and participation of our parents and guardians when it comes to making decisions that affect our students and their families. Therefore, these opportunities are provided to our parents and guardians:

We welcome parents to join the School Improvement Team, Parent Teacher Association and the MTAC
At Holly Shelter Middle we strive to support our parents and guardians with training that will increase their knowledge and ability to access important information regarding their child’s education.

Parents and Guardians are supported during Open House and Meet Your Team Night where we have Scribbles registration support, PowerSchool Portal login assistance for parents and students, as well as quarterly Attendance Clinics
Community partnerships and collaboration can support and enrich our students’ educational experience and our efforts to establish these partnerships will strengthen school programs, families, and student learning.

We support our students through partnerships with UNC Wilmington student internships, Community in Schools, Too Good for Violence, and Elements
We promote health awareness among our parents and guardians by addressing the need for health programs and student health services, which are linked to student learning. Parents and guardians can receive support and resources through the following:

Nourish NC, Coastal Horizons, NC Health Department, as well as, digital citizenship, Family Life Education, and a Safe and Supportive Learning Environment.
